Iconic Pittsburgh Senior Portraits: From the "T" to the Roberto Clemente Bridge

There is something incredibly special about capturing a high school senior on the cusp of their next big adventure. This past week, I had the pleasure of venturing into the heart of downtown Pittsburgh for a late-April senior session that felt like a true love letter to our city.
Our senior is graduating this spring and heading off to university in Utah this fall! While she’s trading the Allegheny mountains for the Wasatch Range soon, she wanted her senior portraits to celebrate her roots right here in Pennsylvania.

A Unique Start on the Pittsburgh "T"
We started the session with a bit of a "commuter twist." Both of her parents ride the Pittsburgh "T" to work, so we headed to the station to capture some edgy, urban shots. It was a new location for me, and I have to say, the leading lines of the rail car and the urban setting provided such a cool, "non-traditional" vibe for a senior gallery.

She started the day in a laid-back jeans and vest top combo—perfect for the transit-inspired setting. Although she mentioned being a little nervous in front of the camera, her natural style shone through immediately. (Pro tip: nervousness is totally normal! Most of my seniors feel that way for the first ten minutes, but as you can see, she looks like a total pro).

Golden Hour on the North Shore & Sixth Street Bridge
As we moved toward the North Shore, the light hit that perfect late-April "golden hour" glow. One of the perks of shooting this time of year in Pittsburgh is the Redbud trees. They were still in full bloom, adding pops of vibrant pink to the cityscape.

We even had a little "team effort" moment—her mom helped hold a flowering branch into the frame so I could get that perfect, blossom-filled composition. It ended up being my favorite shot of the entire day!

For these softer, floral shots, she changed into a stunning floral dress with yellow tones which also matched perfectly with the iconic yellow of the Roberto Clemente Bridge (the Sixth Street Bridge).

Why the Roberto Clemente Bridge is a Senior Photo Dream
We were incredibly lucky because the bridge was closed to vehicle traffic. This allowed us to stand right in the center of the span without a single car in the background! It gave us a clean, unobstructed view of the Pittsburgh skyline that you just can't get on a normal workday.

We originally hoped to stop by Point State Park, but with the city buzzing in preparation for the NHL Draft later this week, the park was closed for event setup. However, the North Shore and the bridges provided more than enough "iconic Pittsburgh" magic to make up for it.

Ready to Celebrate Your Senior Year?
Whether you want the blossoms of the North Shore, the urban grit of the "T," or the classic yellow bridge look, Pittsburgh offers the perfect backdrop for your story.
I am currently booking Class of 2026 summer sessions and late-fall dates for the Class of 2027! Let’s find a location that feels like you.
